The 4-day Transitional Kindergarten class is designed for those children who have turned 5 in the summer or early fall just missing the kindergarten age cutoff date. The 4-Day Transitional Kindergarten curriculum includes reading, language, handwriting, sign language and communication skills, mathematics, and science exploration.
Miss Suzanne excels in working with students on their skill levels, setting goals for them, and helping them achieve their academic goals. She fosters a loving environment in her classroom and challenges her students to think outside the box.
We believe that children learn best through interacting with their environment, and people, and by participating hands-on. We offer many opportunities to manipulate, discover, observe, reflect, experiment, and question so that children can create their own conclusions and knowledge.
Transitional Kindergarten students are immersed in a myriad of experiences that emphasize risk-taking, experimentation, and exploration. A portfolio and writing journal are kept for each student to provide a chronological sampling of their two-dimensional work and writing.
Children develop competence by the temptation of a challenge, practicing what they learn through repetition, and developing new skills. They are encouraged to feel the full range of emotions, so they understand and respect themselves and others, and develop self-confidence and resilience.
All students participate in the Annual My School Preschool Art Show. The children's work is displayed in our "Art Gallery." They take the role of an "Art Docent" and tour their family through the gallery. The evening concludes with songs and creative movement.
Field trips have included Lutherlyn Nature Center, Succop Nature Park, and the Children's Museum of Pittsburgh.
Recommendations for the Institute of Child Psychology https://instituteofchildpsychology.com/ share the advantages of delaying kindergarten for children. The research is fascinating and benefits are seen in emotional temperament, athletic performance, and testing performance. We hope that educating you on "school readiness" and not letting that be defined by age helps you make the appropriate decision for your child's readiness to attend kindergarten.
