Our 3 Day Pre-K classes provide children with a variety of educational opportunities that help them develop age appropriate skills. Along with kindergarten readiness skills, sharking, listening, cooperation, making good choices, creativity and problem solving are also stressed as valuable skills in both educational and social situations.

Since young children learn best through exploration, our child-centered curriculum is based on a multi-sensory, hands-on approach. Each day contains developmentally appropriate learning activities. These activities encourage independence, discovery, problem solving, critical thinking, and creativity. Activities based on sound and letter recognition build phonemic awareness to prepare for reading. Hands-on activities encourage fine motor skill development and provide opportunities to practice writing. Our creative and print-rich environment stiumulates emergent reading and writing skills as students work to make meaning of print. Age-appropriate math and science concepts are discovered through an interactive and manipulative learning environment. Dramatic play, movement, and music encourage self-expression, and allow opportunities for creative interpretation and art projects. We encourage curiousity and strive to develop a love of learning that will last a lifetime. Our approach and materials promote enthusiasm, increase self-confidence, develop critical thinking, and a positive self-image as we work to prepare students for a successful kindergarten experience.

Students enjoy taking home the class mascot, who they get to name. The "pet" has it's own carrier, toys and a journal. Students are encouraged to draw or write about their experiences with their mascot.

All students participate in the Annual My School Preschool Art Show. The children's work is displayed in our "Art Gallery." They take the role of an "Art Docent" and tour their family through the gallery. The evening concludes with songs and creative movement.

Field trips have included Soergel's Farm, Living Treasures, and the Children's Museum of Pittsburgh.
